Exploring Side

One of the best things about Turkey is how hospitable the people are. They greet you like long lost relatives! Sometimes this can be a little overpowering for those unused to such friendliness. In Side there is a byelaw that traders cannot pester tourists or they have their shops closed down for two to three days!

In the town there is the usual collection of waterfront restaurants and bars. There are one or two nightclubs and the usual Mediterranean collection of pavement artists jewellers and trinket sellers every night.

Side is very cultured also and boasts regular artistic events often at the local ruins. Many people speak English and although Turkey is a mainly Muslim country attitudes to sunbathing and alcohol are very English. Beware the Gin and tonics there is not much Tonic in it.

Excursions

All sorts of excursions are available to you and can be arranged by ourselves with our contact in Side at your request.

From Side harbour you can pick up any of the sailing boats moored there. They leave from about 9.00 am and cruise up to Alanya. They stop for swimming, barbeques and there are free drinks all day in most of them. If you haggle expect to pay about £33 for two adults (sterling) for the day. You are brought back to Side by car at the end of the excursion. Check this first!

Further excursions include quad biking, sailing, visit to waterfalls, golf, snow ski-ing in the winter (1 hour away).

Sports etc.

There are local opportunities to go white-water rafting and try other white knuckle sports.

The AliBey Water Park boasts many flumes, large pool areas and plenty of sun-loungers for you to recover on!

Parascending and other water sports are available from the waterfront.

There is also a large tennis centre nearby, with many clay courts, professional instruction and competitions.
